The Ocean's Logbook — When statistics sink, turn to human stories

Statistics don't move people. Stories do. Working with The Ocean Race, I helped create The Ocean's Logbook—a digital platform that turns the abstract goal of protecting 30% of the ocean by 2030 into something personal and real.
The challenge was simple but profound: how do you make ocean conservation feel urgent when most people experience it through numbers on a screen? The answer was to let the ocean speak through the people who know it best. Sailors, surfers, fishermen, families—anyone with a memory worth protecting.

I led the concept development and wrote all the copy across the platform, social channels, and campaign materials. I also designed the user experience, crafting dozens of questions to guide people through sharing their stories in a way that felt natural, not like a survey. On the technical side, I worked on the AI layer that interprets and organizes responses, turning individual entries into a living archive. We collected hundreds of stories from around the world. Each one became part of a testimony delivered to world leaders at the UN Ocean Conference in Nice, adding human weight to a global movement. It's the kind of work I want to do more of—creative problem-solving with a concrete purpose and a real deadline that matters.
